The Host

Wow, I didn't know koreans could make movies but this is really something else!
This monster-action-drama-komedy mixup is from back in 2006 so it has been out quite a long time but I heard of it not long ago and desided to take a look.

Park Gang-Du lives at the Han-river in Seol South Korea with his father and daughter, selling food from a trailer.
It does not take long until a frog-like creature appears from the water and starts wreaking havoc.
It becomes a furious struggle for Gang-Du to escape from the monster and at the same time rescue the people around him. It does not end well, for his daughter becomes one of the victims, beeing snatched by the monster and dragged down into the sewer-system. Park Gang-Du's father an old wise man, his sister a bronze medalist in the national archery competition and his brother an alcoholic university graduate must now go monster hunting to save the life of the young Park Hyun-seo.

This is a nice example of how to mix humor and seriousness actually becoming more realistic, atleast that's the feeling I get, for in real life who doesn't screw up from time to time? and it feels great to see someone in this kind of move who's not able to summersault and shoot a shotgun at the same time but instead acts like a real person would do in these kind of situations. What I always say is the foundation of a good movie is an involving plot and the character portraits. Getting us to like the characters and making us emotionally involved with them makes it so much more intressting and that's the strongpoint of "The Host".

On the negative, a bit in it tends to feel quite drawn out and after a while I lose some interest. I feel like it could have benefited from cutting out maybe 20-30 min making it a bit more intense.

The score for me is 7/10. A diffrent and involving movie that is a nice change from all the hollywood monster-flick
clichés.
